Memberships and Certifications

Planning and Redevelopment staff are members of the following organizations:

Florida Planning and Zoning Association (Gulfcoast Chapter) - The Florida Planning and Zoning Association (FPZA) is a statewide nonprofit organization comprised of people dedicated to planning and developing a quality Florida. IT was formed with a mission to "furnish a medium for interchange of information and mutual assistance among those interested in planning and zoning."

American Planning Association (APA) - The American Planning Association and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, are organized to advance the art and science of planning and to foster the activity of planning -- physical, economic, and social -- at the local, regional, state, and national levels. The objective of the Association is to encourage planning that will contribute to public well-being by developing communities and environments that meet the needs of people and of society more effectively.

APA- The Florida Chapter - The Florida Chapter provides members the opportunity to share experiences with colleagues and to broaden perspectives. The chapter holds an annual conference, educational workshops, AICP exam preparation courses, and produces a newsletter. FAPA also conducts legislative programs, sponsors training workshops, conducts an awards program, and provides public information to and about the planning profession

American Institute of Certified Planners - AICP is the American Planning Association's professional institute, providing recognized leadership nationwide in the certification of professional planners, ethics, professional development, planning education, and the standards of planning practice.

Congress for New Urbanism - The Congress for the New Urbanism was founded in 1993 by a group of enthusiastic architects. They had each worked for years to create buildings, neighborhoods, and regions that provide a high quality of life for all residents, while protecting the natural environment. As outlined in the preamble to our Charter, CNU advocates the restructuring of public policy and development practices to support the restoration of existing urban centers and towns within coherent metropolitan regions. We stand for the reconfiguration of sprawling suburbs into communities of real neighborhoods and diverse districts, the conservation of national environments, and the preservation of our built legacy. Rebuilding neighborhoods, cities, and regions is profoundly interdisciplinary. We believe that community, economics, environment, and design need to be addressed simultaneously through urban design and planning.

Certified Public Manager - The CPM program is a widely recognized, systematic approach to the training and development of government administrators. The program's primary goal is to improve the performance of public sector managers and the organizational performance of city, county, and state government.
