This project will include cold milling the existing surface, applying an asphalt base course, landscaping the existing medians and concluding with a friction course. The limits of the project are from US 301 to US 41and the construction activities will be phased, based on the following tentative schedule.
The project approach is to start the initial activities on Monday, November 28, 2011 with mobilization, Maintenance of Traffic and water quality BMP’s. The milling and base course paving will be completed at night, with work scheduled from 7 pm to 7 am. One lane of traffic will be maintained for vehicular traffic during the work period. While we are not detouring traffic, utilization of the city street network is encouraged to avoid this construction area and eliminate delay to the motorist. This will also allow the contractor to complete his activities as quickly as possible. Base course paving of the milled area will occur during each shift and motorists will not be required to drive on the milled surface the following day.
Concrete median modifications will also take place during this period with relocation of the noses to improve the turn radii at the intersections.
This work is anticipated to be completed on or before December 23, 2011 and the contractor will cease activities until after the New Year.
