1 City Commissioner Willie Shaw will host a community
forum Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the Pines
of Sarasota, 1501 North Orange
Avenue. Commissioner Shaw will provide an update on initiatives
occurring within District 1 and answer constituent questions.
Residents, business owners and District 1 stakeholders are
encouraged to attend.
Discussion topics include: community policing,
Mediterranean Apartments, youth empowerment, North Trail Partnership,
17th and Orange drainage project, North Sarasota library,
North Sarasota workforce initiative and Marian Anderson Place.

Commissioner Shaw has served as the District
1 City Commissioner since May 2011. He represents the City
Commission on the Juvenile Justice Council of the Department
of Justice/Juvenile Assessment Center Advisory Committee,
Enterprise Zone Redevelopment Agency, the Sarasota County
Community Action Agency Board and the Southwest Florida Regional
The boundaries of District 1 roughly are
University Parkway to the north; Fruitville Road to the south;
N. Tamiami Trail to the west and Tuttle Avenue to the east.
