Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota is seeking public input on new multimodal projects for the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). A community meeting will be held Thursday, April 9 at 6 p.m. at the City Hall Annex, SRQ Media Studio, 1565 First Street. Anyone interested in multimodal transportation options is encouraged to attend.
The City of Sarasota is in the process of updating its bicycle/pedestrian connection plan. During the meeting, a preliminary multimodal connections map will be shared detailing new locations for intersection/pedestrian crossing improvements, multi-use recreation trails (MURTs), bike lanes, bike shared-lane markings (sharrows), and protected bike lanes. Staff would like feedback on these proposals.
Also during the meeting, staff will provide an overview of the City’s CIP process. The CIP is a 5-year plan, approved by the City Commission, which budgets for capital improvements to maintain levels of service, correct deficiencies in existing public facilities, serve projected future growth, and replace aging facilities.
Future funding for many of the planned multimodal projects is expected to come from the recently established multimodal transportation impact fee, which replaces the previous roadway impact fee. With the new multimodal impact fees, funds can be allocated toward a variety of multimodal projects, in addition to road capacity improvements.
