Sarasota, FL: The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex will host the inaugural Sam “Sticky” Shields Adult Basketball Tournament the weekend of April 10-12.  The top team will walk away with a $2,000 cash prize, while spectators will enjoy a competitive tournament and a chance to meet the tournament’s namesake:  Sarasota native and NFL standout player Sam Shields.

“Sam is one of Sarasota’s hometown sports heroes and we’re excited about his community involvement and commitment to this new tournament,” said Arthur Larkins, RLTCC Supervisor. “This will be a competitive event that will allow adults from Sarasota and the surrounding communities to participate at a state of the art facility and showcase their basketball skills and sportsmanship.”

The tournament will be a 5-on-5 competition for adults.  The entry fee is $300 per team with a maximum of ten players on a team.  Each team is guaranteed to compete in at least two games.

Tournament play starts on Friday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at RLTCC, 1845 34th Street, and the championship team will be crowned Sunday, April 12.

The winning team will be awarded a $2,000 cash prize.  The player displaying the most outstanding sportsmanship during the tourney will receive a mini tablet.

In addition to the competitive basketball games, the tournament will feature a free throw competition and halftime events.  On Saturday, Sarasota’s own Sam Shields, a Pro Bowl cornerback with the Green Bay Packers, will hold an autograph signing session.
