Applicants
interested in purchasing a home through the Down Payment
Assistance program should first attend a free homeownership
class through Consumer Credit Counseling Services.
All
applicants are required to take a homebuyer education course
given by a HUD certified counseling agency. The course will
give future homeowners the information they need to make
a smart choice when purchasing their first home.
Applicants
should then contact a mortgage lender to be pre-approved
for a mortgage and the program. Applicants apply through
a mortgage lender for down payment and closing cost assistance
once a contract has been executed to purchase a home subject
to funds availabilty.
The
mortgage lender then forwards the application to the Office
of Housing and Community Development.
