City of Sarasota Home / Living In Sarasota / OHCD Homepage / Homebuyer Programs / Down Payment Assistance

DUE TO LEGISLATIVE CUTS IN STATE BUDGETS THE DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HAS BEEN SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY
Citizens with opinions on these cutbacks are urged to contact your state legislators

(see attached)

Applying to the Program

  • Applicants interested in purchasing a home through the Down Payment Assistance program should first attend a free homeownership class through Consumer Credit Counseling Services.

  • Click here for a 2009 Homebuyer Class Schedule.

  • All applicants are required to take a homebuyer education course given by a HUD certified counseling agency. The course will give future homeowners the information they need to make a smart choice when purchasing their first home.

  • Applicants should then contact a mortgage lender to be pre-approved for a mortgage and the program. Applicants apply through a mortgage lender for down payment and closing cost assistance once a contract has been executed to purchase a home subject to funds availabilty.

  • The mortgage lender then forwards the application to the Office of Housing and Community Development.

Please contact Jane Hindall at 951-3640 ext. 3766 for more information.
