Barrier Removal Program
- The Barrier Removal Program is an important
subset of the Home Repair Program. It was created to increase
the independence of disabled homeowners in Sarasota. The
program makes this goal possible by providing assistance
to residents to remove barriers that would otherwise force
a disabled resident to leave their home.
- Examples of eligible improvements include
entrance ramps, widening of doorways, modifying
bathrooms, and lowering switches. If other repairs
unrelated to providing barrier removal are needed, the homeowner
must enroll in the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program.
- Homeowners who are on disability or have
a disabled family member that permanently resides in the
home and are at or below 80% of the median income, adjusted
for family size, may qualify for assistance. The market
value of their homes cannot exceed $304,223.
